A Purpose [Open to Company Members]

Nanalie flew straight to the tower, the strange collar of the Templar's still in her hand. She was hoping that her Uncle Junior or perhaps Devon could figure out what the thing was, and perhaps even a way to make them useless. She was sure it was something dangerous if they had planned on using it on her, and she didn't want to see it used on anyone else. She had heard of a device that had sapped Cala's powers when she had been kidnapped, but the details of what the device were had never been given: could this be it?

She would arrive at the tower within seconds, hovering outside of the window to her Uncle Junior's office long enough to open it and step inside. She would close the window behind herself before glancing around in a very calm fashion despite what had almost just happened. Was he here? Or had he turned in for the evening already? A hand would brush back her wild looking white hair, keeping it free from her gaze.

She also found herself wondering how her mother was going to take the idea of her wanting to join the Assassin's. Would she freak out? Would she say no? Or would she allow her? Time would certainly tell, because she had every intention of doing so.

Jr had just got done altering footage. He saw Yata jump out of the tree and stab the Templar. He saw him pull a gun and shoot the other one. It was fine work, but if the wrong people got a hold of this footage, Jr would have to hear yapping, from the mayor, from the police chief, from the media.

Jr had some small tools on the desk in front of him. He'd just got done putting together several small and discreet devices. He wasn't going to make too many of them right now, because he still didn't know how this whole Assassin thing was going to turn out. What the devices did was blur out the identity of whoever had them in their possession on all forms of surveillance, be it cameras or supernatural means of looking at them. To whoever attempted to look at someone with this device, they would simply appear as a jumble of colors.

Nanalie came into the office through the window. "So the Templars are trying to get their hands on a Kane now," he said. "These guys are really getting desperate to get their hands on that thing Grand dad has locked downstairs. That the collar thing dude tried to slap on you?"

Nanalie blinked; she knew she shouldn't be surprised that her Uncle Junior already knew what had happened even though she had arrived seconds after it did. She simply nodded in response and shrugged. She reached over and placed the collar down on his desk. ”Yup. From what I'm assuming the one guy was supposed to keep me distracted while the other went about sneaking up behind me...”

A slight frown formed on her face and she folded her arms across her chest. ”My mom had told me that there were some shady people roaming around, and not to go outside unless I was armed but she hadn't gone into too much detail. Yata filled me in though. Kinda thinking about wanting to help out... dunno how my mom's going to take it though.” She went silent then, pondering. She had no idea what Demi was going to say when she brought up to her wanting to join the Assassin's, nor did she have any idea how her mom would react to hearing that one of them had tried to attack, or likely kidnap her. Demi did have a short temper after all....

”Is that what was used on Cala when she was kidnapped? I heard something was used that completely negated all of her powers... but I didn't want to ask too many questions and bring up bad memories.”

"Yeah, I guess. Vigilante told me they used some drug on her too. What's this about you wanting to help out? You can't be wanting to join the Assassins. Dad didn't want any of us getting involved in any of this drama; he didn't want us to suffer the same things he did when he was your age. Or even your aunt Dez. She was killing people when she was only 4, and now she's a psycho. You wanna end up a nutball too? Not to mention if something were to happen to you, your mother would find some kind of way to blame it all on me."

Nanalie, an Assassin. Jr wasn't for that. But knowing how his niece and his sisters were, she'd find a way to have what she wanted. He sighed some and went back to looking through cameras.

Jr had to back track when he saw something new. It was a city he'd never really noticed before. Located somewhere near where Velo used to be, it looked technologically advanced. Typing a while on the keyboard, the info he came up with had the city named Soubi Shinkai. "Well, that's new..." he mumbled. "It's also over there where that alien was last seen. There's no telling who might be over there, or what they may be up to..."

The cameras were able to catch and zoom in on several individuals, but nothing was coming up on them in files. Someone would have to go over there an investigate the place. If the natives were friendly, then they'd have to be warned about the Templars, and also that alien. Jr thought of going himself, but with things going on around Edge, he didn't want to go too far. He pulled out his cellphone and sent a message.

Dad

Located a new city, need someone to go check it out. Donno where Vigilante is, donno where Dez is, Demi is busy with the club. We all know how you like exploring new places, so I figured you could go introduce yourself to these folk, and represent Edge, Makkura and Sunset. Let me know if you feel up to it.

Jr

Nanalie frowned a bit; she had kind of been expecting this sort of reaction. But, she was sixteen years old now, and not a little kid. Besides, it wasn't like she was going into this situation thinking it was going to be danger free. She knew there were risks and she was willing to face them if it meant being able to do the right thing.

”I do want to join the Assassin's. I've graduated school, completely. Grandad taught me himself when I was ten years old how to shoot, and I'm good at it, I've practiced every day since he taught me. Besides, I don't like the idea of sitting around on my butt, able to do what I'm able to, knowing that there's a group of creeps going around kidnapping and torturing people. And as far as my mom goes, I'll talk to her myself. And I'm make sure she knows that if anything happens to me it's not your fault, it's mine.”

”Talk to me about what?”

Demi had been on her way ask Junior if there were any updates on the things going on, when she had caught the tail end of the conversation upon entering the office. She had a feeling she knew what it was about, especially as she caught sight of the collar on Junior's desk. A frown formed on her face and she came to a stop nearby Nanalie. She looked her daughter over once, quickly but thoroughly, to see that there were no marks on her. Still... she knew. Her gut was talking to her right now.

”Let me take a stab in the dark here: you were at the park like you said you'd be when some Templar's showed up. Something happened – I'm assuming some altercation though you look uninjured. Now you want to join the Assassin's and fight against the Templar's... Am I on the right track here?”, the words were spoken in a deadly calm voice, and Demi's face was an emotionless mask, hiding what she was feeling – though inside she was a whirling storm of emotions, mostly fear and worry. She would glance at Junior, giving him time to say what had happened, or anything at all really before she would continue on.

”Tell me why, Nanalie.. ? And it better be for more then just a revenge kick.”

The window opened, and in he came, sliding across the carpet in a comical fashion; that sarcastic grin on his face. He'd had a chance to rest up for a day or two at home. He'd had a chance to eat, see the kid, hug on and feel up the lady. Then came a text about a new city somewhere? He wanted to see this.

Alec left the window open, suggesting that someone else was about to come in. In the office was Jr, Nanalie and Demi. On the desk was some kind of a device that he'd never seen before. Nanalie and Demi both had an air of aggression, suggesting that something had happened.

"New city, eh? No way am I gonna pass that up... But uh, what's going on here? Something happen?... And what's that thing?"

Alec picked the thing up and looked it over some. it didn't look like anything Devon would make. Did this thing have something to do with the anger that was hovering about Demi and Nanalie? Something told him he was about to find out...

This was a strange village... only, Alec didn't say it was a village, he called it a "City." It seemed to go on forever into the horizon. Buildings that were called "skyscrapers." Metal things that traveled on wheels called "Cars." Kuro had never seen anything like this, and couldn't bring himself to stop staring.

Kuro saw the tallest structure he'd ever seen in his life. Alec called it "Darkman Tower." It was so tall, it stretched upwards into the clouds and into the heavens themselves. He followed Alec up to near the very top, where he opened a window and stepped into a room.

Kuro, an individual dressed totally in black (Hooded jacket, shirt, pants, boots, fingerless gloves) stepped into this room after Alec. There were two females that had white hair, and both of them looked a lot like Alec. There was a male sitting behind a desk that had floating pictures above it; the male also looking much like Alec. Again Kuro couldn't help but to stare. Were the pictures alive? How was this possible? Who were these people? Were these Alec's family?

So many questions. Kuro thought it would be rude of him to just start blurting them out, so he remained silent and only stared at his surroundings in awe.

"You're not hearing or understanding anything i'm saying, Nanalie. You're gonna do what you're gonna do regardless of how I feel about it, just make sure your mom---" Jr started to say, until Demi herself walked in. "Well speak of the devil. You two can have at it, i'm not getting involved in that. I have enough to deal with as is. If it were up to me, i'd say no, but it's not up to me, so you two deal with it."

Demi began speaking to Nanalie, while he continued looking at the cameras, examining this new city. It wouldn't be much longer before his father and someone else dressed in black came into the office through the window. Jr pushed the window closed after this hooded person came in after his father.

"Yes, a new city. And yes, something happened. The Templars are getting desperate. They tried to kidnap Nanalie, and use that thing you're holding to take her powers and speed away. I'm sure Nanalie could have taken those clowns by herself, but Yata stepped in to help her," Jr said, bringing up another screen to show the video of him jumping out of the tree to Assassinate one Templar, then pull a gun to shoot another; both kills done in a professional manner. "Now she wants to join the Assassins. I don't think it's a good idea. But, who cares what I think, right?"

Jr was trying not to let his anger get the best of him. There was going to be yet another family member on the front lines to be worried about. After rubbing his eyes he turned to look at the guy that came into the office with his father. "So who is this that you brought with you? New resident of Makkura? He certainly looks like he lives there."

Nanalie heard her mother's voice and turned to see her walking into the office. Nanalie frowned a bit more: she had planned on telling her mother, but she had wanted to do it in a different setting – preferably her mother's favorite restaurant while she was buttering her up so that her mother's rage was a little less... scary. However, the proverbial cat appeared to be out of the bag as her mother quickly deducted what had happened despite not hearing the entire conversation. Her mother was hiding her emotions well, but that only told Nanalie that she was worried and probably a bit pissed off too.

Before she could answer her mother's question though her grandfather arrived followed by an individual she had never seen before who was dressed in all black. Junior gave a brief explanation of what happened, and what the collar device was.

Nanalie meanwhile sorted through her reasons why: she knew if she didn't provide a good one that her mother wasn't going to allow her to do this. ”Look... ever since I was ten I took what grandad showed me and I ran with it. I won't try and brag and say I'm the best or some garbage like that, because I know there's always someone out there better – but I have skills. I'm tired of sitting around, doing nothing more then helping you with papers in Zero Sum. I want to put my skills to use. I want to do something worthwhile and helpful. I know it's dangerous. But, I would feel really bad if I sat back and didn't help when I could have, and then someone else end up hurt when I could have prevented that. It's not like it'll interfere with my school either, since I already graduated.”

She sighed softly and added, ”I'm not diving into this recklessly. I know what those guys are capable of; I saw what they did to Cala, and I heard Devon's account of how that affected both of them.... I want to do something good with the skills I have.” She fell silent then, giving her mother a chance to think, a chance to consider Nanalie's reasoning's. If her mother said no then she wouldn't do it, but she really hoped she would get her support in all of this.

Demi watched her father enter into the office followed by an individual dressed in all black who looked as if he would have fit right at home in Makkura. However, the majority of her focus remained on her daughter. She wanted to know why her little girl wanted to go running off to play with the big boys instead of staying home where she would be safe and sound. Especially considering how tonight could have turned out.

She heard Junior explain in brief detail to Alec what had happened, including how Yata had been there and handled both of those Templar's, and she couldn't help but feel grateful for him.

And then her daughter was explaining things and a frown fully formed on Demi's face. From what Nanalie was saying she wasn't running into this half-cocked. She had skills, skills that Alec had taught her, and she wanted to use them to do some good. She wanted to prevent another situation like what happened to Cala from happening to anyone else. She didn't like the thought of someone else getting hurt when she could be out there helping this cause. Had anyone else given her this argument she would have agreed with it instantly, however this was her daughter.

A groan would escape Demi as she lifted her right hand and rubbed at her face, thinking. Eventually Demi would sigh and shake her head a bit. ”I would rather you do this with me knowing about it then not. You're right, you're out of school, and I can't stop you from doing what you think is right. I just hope you know what you're getting yourself into Nanalie. I understand your urge to help, more so then you might think. But, it'll change you. Taking a life is not something to be taken lightly. It might not change you now, but it will eventually... just be weary of that.” Demi wasn't trying to be dramatic, or make her daughter feel bad, she was just trying to give her some sound advice: taking a life was never as easy as it seemed to be in movies and in books – it was a life changing event.

An elevator ride up 1,000 floors. Yata wanted to know what was up with that device he pulled off of that Templar. If they were mass producing these things, then all of them were in potential danger. Yata could have called, but he wanted to hear this in person.

He stepped into the office looking far different that he had when he first came up here. Yata wore and white and red hooded jacket, the hood up, concealing the top of his head down to his nose and lips. On his chest was a bulletproof vest. He wore black baggy pants that had strings tied around the knees, and black boots. At his waist was a belt that held weapons and other supplies, though most of them couldn't be seen.

On his back was his newest item: his Assassin board. It costed him a hefty penny to have it constructed, as it was made some some of the hardest known metals on the planet, topped off with diamond fixtures, diamond knives and a diamond coated finish. On the bottom of it, the side of the board facing out, one could see red colored diamonds in the same shape of the symbol on the back of his jacket, the Assassin's Insignia.

The office had several in it. he recognized Demi and her daughter Nanalie, he recognized Jr dude, and daddy Kane, but there was some other dude there dressed in black with a hood on in a similar fashion to he that he didn't recognize. Maybe another family member? Another member of The Company?

"Jr dude, you figure out what that thing is yet?" Yata asked. "If the Templars are making a lot of these, this could mean trouble for you all. I aim to find where they're making these things and put a stop to it..."

The Templars tried to kidnap one of his grand children. It made sort of a grim expression appear on his face. The device he held was probably the same one used on Cala. Like Jr said, they must have been growing desperate to try abducting a Kane directly.

To see Yata step in and help her was what put the sarcastic grin back onto his face. Watching the video, Alec could see that the training he'd done on the 5th floor paid off. He looked like a machine now, handily dealing with the Templars attempting to get their hands on Nanalie.

He was also grinning because Nanalie now wanted to be an Assassin, and Jr seemed to be against it. It made sense to Alec. He'd taught the kid to handle guns at an early age. She had to have been practicing all these years, sharpening her skills. Maybe she was itching to get into some action. Kane blood flowed through her veins, after all.

"Ahhh. No need to be like that, son. Sure, I didn't want you all in any sort of drama back in my day, and I didn't want you all to come up like me and your sister Dez did, but things are different now, more controlled. She wants to become an Assassin, let her... And yeah, this is a new resident to Makkura, his name is Kuro Nara. He arrived here from that other world, I guess there's still portals here and there connecting our worlds still... Nanalie, i'll tell you like dad told Yata, if you're to do this, I want you to rely on yourself and not your special abilities. Save those for when your life is at risk."

Then Yata himself walked in. He looked far different now, and Alec almost didn't recognize him. He had a new skateboard that looked to have been constructed with diamonds.

"Was just talking about you, Assassin. Nice work down there in the park... That a new board? Pretty sick looking. Say... have you ever been anywhere outside of Edge? I'm gonna take a trip to the other side of the world and visit a newly discovered city. As the first recruit into the new chapter of the Assassin Brotherhood I think you should come with, yeah?"

There seemed to be much going on. The Templars, bent on collecting what were known as "Pieces of Eden," tried to kidnap the girl here, Nanalie. The male behind the desk had to be Alec's son, even with him looking older than Alec, but it was explained to Kuro that Alec looked as young as he did because of the necklace he wore, which reverted him back to a younger form. The female Demi had to be Alec's daughter, and the girl Nanalie was Alec's grand daughter. Alec spoke of other kids as well, leaving Kuro to wonder just how many kids he had. The Kane family seemed to be large.

The abduction of Nanalie was foiled by someone named Yata, a young man revealed to be part of a group of Assassins. Nanalie wanted to become an Assassin herself, and while Jr didn't seem to like that idea, most likely because he didn't want her in danger, Demi and Alec didn't seem to mind. When Alec introduced him, Kuro remained silent and simply gave a small bow.

Then Yata himself walked in. The thing that stood out the most about him had to be the device on his back with the wheels on it. It looked quite shiny and expensive. Yata asked about the item in Alec's hands, and said that if the Templars were making many of these, they were all in danger. Alec asked Yata about coming to the new city with them.

It seemed like Kuro had arrived in the midst of drama brewing between families and cults, which seemed very exciting. Kuro was anxious to help them however he could...

Demi didn't mind, his father didn't mind. It made him make a growling noise and shake his head. "Geez, why am I even boss?" he asked, throwing his hands up. "Whatever, I don't care. Demi, if anything happens to her, it's on YOUR head! Understand? I am not to be held responsible if and when things foul up!"

Jr stood and shook Kuro's hand. "Nice to meet you, Kuro. It's good that your here and not in that other world, people liked running their mouths and not doing anything in the end. It was a boring time."

Yata came in soon after, asking about the device. He said if they were making these en masse, they were all in trouble, and that he aimed to find where they were making these things and stop them. "Not yet, Yata. I was about to have it sent down to Devon so she could examine it. Thanks for assisting my niece by the way."

His father asked Yata if he'd been outside of Edge before, and if he wanted to come with him and Kuro when they went over there to visit. "That's a good idea, Yata, you should go with. Let the Assassin presence be felt over there too. Before I forget, take this and put it in your phone. I'm making them for all Assassins, it'll make you invisible to all surveillance equipment so I won't have to keep turning off cameras and altering footage. There's a bit of magic involved too; supernatural means of looking at you will produce the same effect."

Jr sat back behind the desk and handed over one of the small devices which highly resembled an SD card.

Surveillance Jammer:

Nanalie had been expecting to have to fight tooth and nail to convince her mother to let her do this – and yet that wasn't the case. Demi just expected her to be careful: she preferred she know what her daughter was up to instead of Nanalie doing it anyway behind her back. Her mother made a comment that killing someone changed you, and she didn't doubt it. She didn't think taking a life would be easy, but it was something she was willing to do if the need arose. The Templar's were evil, and evil needed to be eliminated at all costs.

She nodded to her mother's words and made plans to head down to the fifth floor. Her Uncle Junior wasn't happy about her choice and she couldn't blame him, but her grandfather didn't seem to mind her wanting to help out. Her grandfather simply told her to only use her powers when absolutely needed, to which she nodded in understanding. ”Alright, grandad.”

She glanced back to the collar and then sighed softly. ”I'mma go head downstairs...”, she commented before turning and leaving the office.

Demi pulled out her cellphone and shot a quick text to Devon asking for her to come upstairs to the office for a moment. If her daughter was going to be messing around with the Templar's, joining the Assassin's, then she wanted the collar device looked at as quickly as possible. Putting her phone away she would fold her arms across her chest, catching a glimpse of her daughter leaving as she did so.

”I sent Devon a text asking her to come up here... I want that thing looked at as soon as
possible...”

Devon hadn't been working on anything in particular when the text from Demi had come in asking her to come upstairs. So, she simply pulled her earbud headphones out and put them away before walking out of the R&D department and to the elevator. She took it up a floor, exited, and walked down the hall and into Junior's office. Eyebrows were raised in curiosity as she saw several individuals, including one whom she didn't recognize at all.

Devon's gaze then moved to the collar and her smile faltered and then disappeared. Her sister had described that device to her, so she knew it anywhere. A small twitch started above her right eyebrow and she glanced around before looking to Junior. ”Who'd they try and get this time?”, she asked curiously. There was no beating around the bush with this: had someone else been tortured just as her sister had? These Templar's were truly a dangerous and cruel bunch...

Yata came in to be complimented by dad Kane and thanked by Jr dude. "No thanks necessary," he replied, holding a hand up. "I'm pretty sure she could have taken care of herself without any help from me."

Jr dude gave him something that would jam security cameras and other surveillance equipment. "Thanks," he said, taking it. While putting the device into his Android, dad Kane asked if he'd been out of the city before, and if he wanted to go with him to check out a newly discovered city. It sounded like a good idea, but Yata wasn't all too keen on leaving Edge just yet.

"Sorry dad Kane, but I can't leave," was his answer. "There's too much work to be doing down in the streets. There's Templar nests everywhere, and I need to find out where they're making that thing there. I also have to keep an eye out on Starlette's shop. Appreciate the offer though."

Jr dude didn't seem to like how Nanalie wanted to become an Assassin, even with the fact that Demi and dad Kane were cool with it. Devon came in next and asked who they tried to get this time. Yata figure that she'd get to the guts of that device and find out what made it tick.

Yata was itching to hit the streets, blend with the people and find out what he could find out. "I have work to do. Call if you find out anything interesting," he said while turning towards the office door. He walked out and entered an elevator.

[Exit]

Yata said he didn't want to go; that he had too much to do here in Edge. He said he wanted to find out where they were making these devices and stop them. It was a noble cause, and one that made Alec grin. Alec almost wanted to help him, but that process would further hone his Assassin Skills.

"Alright, I can respect that. Good luck, Assassin."

Jr was still against the idea of Nanalie becoming an Assassin too. Demi and Nanalie both didn't seem to care how he felt about it at all, and it made Jr question why he was Boss. The lack of response to Jr's feeling is what made Alec frown some. He didn't want his kids and grand kids to grow apart, not in times like these. If the situation didn't sort itself out, he'd do the sorting for them.

"Look... we're going to go. I'll go over here and see who's in charge, warn them of current events, then i'll be back... You all save that frustration and drama for our enemies. We have enough to deal with as is, with cult members going around kidnapping people, I don't need you all fighting too. Come on Kuro, let's get moving."

Alec went back to the window, opened it, and dove out.

The guy with the wheeled board, Yata, said he couldn't go with them to the new city. Kuro listened to his reasoning and it made sense.

It seemed the girl Nanalie was going to become an Assassin, regardless of how Jr felt about it. Alec seemed to have sensed the tension between all of them and tried to put a stop to a bad situation before it started.

When Alec said to come on, to then go and jump out of the window again, Kuro gave another bow and went to follow him. This high up, the city below looked like a toy. He began to fall faster while catching up to Alec...

Jr wasn't going to waste the time and energy it would take to get mad and rage at his niece and sister. It was just whatever in his eyes. The girls always got their way and were just going to do whatever they wanted.

Yata said he couldn't go because there was work to be done right here. He wanted to find out who was building these things. Jr would feel better with him here, in the streets, gathering intel and stabbing these Templars. Yata had a new determination about him that made Jr feel confident that he'd be instrumental in ridding Edge of these pests.

Yata went to leave and said to call if they found anything interesting. Jr quickly slipped one of his feathers into Yata's jacket pocket as he turned to leave. "Take that with you, I think it'll come in handy," he said. The feather was imbued with an ability that he would be able to make great use of while in stealth...

Ability on that feather:

His father went to leave next, and Jr would also slip a stack of flyers into his pocket before he dove out the window. "Spread those around over there. If there's Templars in that new place, they'll see this and know we're on to them,"

Flyer:

Devon came in after a text from Demi. "They tried to get Nanalie," Was Jr's answer. "They failed though. Yata silenced them both, but they dropped this. You wanna look it over? Find out how it works? I think it's the same one they used on Cala. Yata is on his way to try and find out where they're making these things, and shut them down."

Demi watched everyone leave and frowned a bit: she didn't like this situation, any of it. But, she also felt powerless to stop it. She didn't want her daughter being put into harms way, and yet she was pretty sure that Nanalie would have joined anyway without her permission. She would definitely rather know what her daughter was doing then her do it behind her back. Sighing in frustration she would turn and walk towards the exit.

”God, I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.. If anyone needs me I'll be at Zero Sum.” She would pause at the door way and look back towards Junior. ”I'm sorry for this Junior.... I don't mean to make your job harder. And I know you don't want any of us ending up like Dezzy... but I'd rather Nanalie do this with my knowledge then feel the need to sneak behind my back and do it that way... And I won't blame you if something happens; I'll only have myself to place the blame on...”

Falling silent she would then turn and walk away completely; heading to the elevator and back down to Zero Sum.

Devon, blinking, would look between Demi and Junior for a moment: she clearly got the gist of what was going on – Nanalie was joining up with the Assassin's and Junior wasn't happy about it. The very idea made Devon frown too: Cala had already been tortured, they didn't need to risk anyone else falling to the same sort of fate. But, Demi was also right – it was better that Nanalie do this with their knowledge rather then attempting to hide it.

Turning her attention back onto the task at hand she would walk over and take the collar. Looking it over cautiously she would frown a bit. The design was highly advanced, but not one that she couldn't crack and figure out. ”Hmm... the design is fairly sophisticated, but I'm sure I can figure it out. I'm going to try and make a counter to it too once I do – preferably something small that everyone can keep on them if I can manage it. Just in case....”

She then, remembering what she had recently built, turned her attention back onto Junior. ”Oh, before I forget I invited something rather interesting that some people might find useful... it's called and Animus. It allows the one using it to go back in through their ancestors memories. In our blood is also stored the memories of those who've come before us, my machine allows the user to access them. I built two actually, so two people can either go into two different memories, or sync into the same one...”

Jr didn't give any response when Demi apologized. What would be the use? He'd just be wasting his breath.

Devon had herself a look at the Templar device, saying she could figure it out, and also build a counter to it. That, and with Yata looking for where these things were manufactured, these things would soon no longer be a problem.
