Bringing Bad News [Alec Kane, or Invite][NR]

Amaranth landed on the roof of Darkman Tower gently, and nearly soundlessly. Her cape billowed out behind her as she walked to the door that lead to the stairwell and entered into it. She headed down the steps, and entered into the hallway that would lead her to her grandfather's office. She found her steps slowing as she suddenly felt apprehension towards this. Poor Demitria, how would she take this? How would Riley or Nanalie take this? How could she bring this bad news?

But she had to. Flynn had been her Underboss, he had lived on her island. That made it her responsibility, even if she wished it wasn't.

She stopped outside of her grandfather's office and opened the door slowly and quietly, before she stepped in and closed it behind herself. With sadness in her eyes she looked towards her grandfather's desk, hoping that she would find him behind it; while she wanted to curl into a little ball on the inside and demand that someone else be put in charge of this task - even if there was no one else.

"Grandad...."

Demons, Vampires, vengeful Spirits. It had been a crazy past couple of months, and most of it all seemed to surround Demi. The memories of a man she'd been with for years and birthed children to had been ripped out of their heads, and the very physiology of the children had been changed. All because Flynn failed to be there. Alec still couldn't think of what to say when he thought of the guy. The story this guy was going to have to tell when he did finally show up would have to be an interesting, epic tale that could be sold to a screen writer and turned into a blockbuster movie.

But then Amaranth walked in with a sad look on her face. She wasn't bringing even more bad news, was she? He couldn't really feel anything else out of place. Why was she looking like that? It made him frown and sit up straight.

"Grand baby? What's wrong? What's going on now?"

A soft sigh escaped her as she wandered over to her grandfather's desk, around it, and then over to him. "Well, grandad... Uncle Junior got me laughing and stuff and the storms went away, the sea calmed down and cooled... and I sent my tamer experiments out to clean up the mess that was left behind.. and as I was going through my cameras to make sure they didn't miss anything I found Flynn lying on the ground near the hunting grounds... I went and investigated right away... it looks like he died of a heart attack of some kind, because there's really nothing else I could find..."

She frowned slightly. "I've never had to tell someone bad news like that... and I know I sent Demi here....."

Alec put an arm around his Grand Daughter, listening to this next bit of bad news and just sat back in his chair again, letting out the breath in his lungs through his nose in a sigh. A sad end to a fucked up story. He looked out of the windows to his left at the clouds and blue, shaking his head.

"To be honest with you, it comes as no surprise... and as harsh as this may sound, he won't even be missed. Before you say anything, I have something here you should read..."

Alec unzipped the dufflebag on his left side and pulled out the heavenly scroll with the red ribbon on it. He handed it to Amaranth to read and see for herself.

She couldn't believe her grandad had said that... and then he was handing her the letter that explained everything. She blinked at the feel of the paper beneath her fingertips. "Paper feels... funny..." She began to read quietly after her comment. Demitria apparently had a guardian angel running around in the background, who had watched everything that had happened since around the time she became a vampire; more importantly he had watched the most recent episodes that revolved around Demitria's death and everything that happened afterwards.

"Well..." Her sadness depleted for the most part. "At least I don't have to give Demitria the bad news. I didn't know how well I was going to be able to do that." A soft sigh escaped her and she hugged her grandfather. "Last thing I wanted to see was a rampaging Malkavian. I suppose this means that Nanalie and Riley are just going to end up living here then... Demitria was only staying on my island because Flynn was more comfortable there."

A showdown with a crime boss. It was all he could think about while booking ass across the city, jumping from rooftop to rooftop while heading toward Darkman Tower. This was going to be another cool chapter to add in.

At the big gate that went all the way around the building, V got in front of Cala backwards and put her arms over his shoulders. Having collected all of the kinetic energy from running here, he used it and the jets in his boots to push himself and Cala upwards 1,000 stories, leaving behind a large blue shockwave.

He landed safely on the roof, and made his way down into the building, assuming Cala was right with him. Down 2 flights of stairs and out into a hallway that lead to Alec's office. V knocked before opening the door and walking in to see him and a little red head girl. "Boss? Is this a bad time?"

Cala held on tight as V jumped them both the whole way up to the roof. A soft laugh escaped her. She then followed him across the roof, down the steps, and to Alec's office. She entered after V, and closed the door behind them. Hearing V's words she glanced over to Alec, and saw Amaranth. Her head tilted a bit as she too wondered if this was a bad time.

She focused for a moment on the cobweb, ensuring that everything was okay as she focused mainly on Demitria... and then the information flooded in her mind, everything that had happened; the fact that Demitria didn't know who Flynn was anymore... and much, much more. Oh boy, today was full of all kinds of surprises.

But, she would wait to hear if this was a bad time or not before dropping the Xan bomb into the room...

"The last thing I want to see is a rampaging little you. You can't be flying off the handle and starting catastrophic end of the world storms whenever you get mad, you scare the shit out of these religious people and make a big scene in the media. Innocent people are at risk too... When I get mad I can't help the thunderstorm that appears. But a hurricane that size, and the boiling water? Grand Baby, don't do that..."

It was best to let this situation die. There wasn't any reason to drag it on. No one was crying. No feelings were hurt. But the people that knew the truth could only shake their heads.

The Vigilante and Cala walked in next. He remembered Amaranth saying something about a werewolf problem on her island. The Vigilante would be a perfect candidate to go and handle the infestation for her.

"No, right on time, actually. Come, tell me something. Tell me a story. Please don't make it one of those sad stories because we all know there's been enough drama..."

Amaranth sighed softly and the nodded. "Okay, grandad. I'll try and keep my temper under control. All this stuff just had my head all funky, but Uncle Junior made it all better when he started to describe how badly that demon he killed stunk..." She suddenly giggled as she remembered it all. "I've never smelled a demon before, but I guess it's the kind of smell you never forget."

Her attention shifted to Cala and the Vigilante, she blinked a few times and then gave a friendly wave and smile. She remained by her grandfather, and waited for either of them to speak. She'd like to hear a story too, a good one filled with action and adventure, or maybe something funny... she definitely didn't want to hear anything sad, either.

As she waited for them to speak she found herself wondering if Cala and this guy were friends, or more than friends. They were together after all, the last time she was here...

"The story of some so-called gangsters, both behind that bank robbing and this chemical plant thing the other day that I interrupted, getting their hands on Cala here and holding her hostage in some Massage Parlor in the Red Light District," began to explain V. "One of them took a camera phone photo and sent it to my friend Stretch's website. There were two other idiots i'd seen before in the picture with her, and cross referencing those with ECPD database I was able to track them there. The gangsters were easy, but there's this crime boss...he's mostly bionic and old, but he's strong. He wants me to come back to the Massage Parlor in 2 days and fight him."

Vigilante turned to Cala then. "But you knew that guy, he said 'he knew you in a past life.' I don't think he was the one who captured you either, you two seem like old friends or something. To be honest with you, not to be cocky or anything? But nobody in there posed any threat to either me or you except that old bionic guy, so you weren't in any danger at all, and it seems like you -let- yourself be kidnapped. What's up with all that?"

She wanted to explain things first to V, especially because it would tie into everything else. "Honestly? I was walking down the street when those four idiots showed up, demanding I get into the car and shit. I'd never been kidnapped before, and I could smell they were all human with guns and shooting me can't exactly kill me, so I figured I'd go along for the ride... Next thing I knew they were talking about using me to get to you - along with a hundred and one threats about having their vile way with me and stuff, but that's besides the point."

She then shifted her attention to Alec as well. "So, I get taken upstairs by these idiots to find some old man who looked mostly robotic sitting on the floor and smoking... Took a moment, but he recognized me, and after I saw an old and yet very familiar gesture... I realized I was looking at what was left of Xan."

She looked back to V, figuring to explain even more, since she was sure he wouldn't know who Xan was. "Xan was the leader of Murder INC... from what I was told he just disappeared one day. I thought he was dead up until I saw him in that room."

Once more she looked back to Alec. "Xan said to tell you hi by the way, and to stop by and visit if you wanted to."

Alec looked at his desk and shook his head upon hearing that Cala let herself be kidnapped by gangsters with guns. There's gotta be something better to be doing that letting yourself get kidnapped. I thought your crazy ass would have raped him or something like that by now, are you gonna get him to open up about himself? You don't like him? These words would be said into the head of Cala, among all the other voices that she must have heard as well, that is, if Vigilante's Negation didn't cancel this out. If some for real legit bad guys come along and get their hands on you, what then? Another episode with all of this shit going on, Cala? You did good with this Vigilante thing and you're way on my good side, but don't let that go to your head and make you start cutting up. I put Demi over my knee, and I will beat your ass too, even if you do end up liking it.

Telepathy:

"Xan, huh? One of the founding members of Murder Inc, him and Maxi. Always wondered where he ended up. He told me once, absorbing all of those abilities like he did affected him some kind of way, accelerated his age. He's a robot now, you say huh?.. Yeah, I might have to go pay him a visit. So Xan is a crime boss now... I never figured, with how heroic he used to be back in the day, with that cape he used to wear..."

Alec wondered if he were still with Karin, but he didn't ask Cala because he didn't think Cala knew, and didn't feel like going about the process of looking in her Malkavian brain to look and see if she did. Demi's mind was a big mess; Cala's was going to be 20 times worse.

"I'm going to leave this whole crime family thing in your hands Vig, you can go about this however you want. I can have the police come in and clean up the mess once your done, just try not to make too much of it. While I got you all here, I wanted to discuss a matter concerning the grand daughter here's island. Recently she's had an infestation of werewolves, and she's been having... complications with several of her people. Would you and Cala be up for the job of traveling out there and taking care of her pest problem? It's an exotic tropical paradise, so you can even spend some time out there before or afterwards, your choice."

While speaking Alec typed on his keyboard and caused several holographic screens appear nearby Vigilante and Cala that showed various pictures of the island of Sugure, of the beaches, the jungle, the cities and the underwater lab.

Amaranth listened to the conversation going on about Xan. She had heard of him before, but she hadn't heard if he was still around or not: most of what she had heard had been stories here and there when her mother was bored and remembering things.

Then her grandad was speaking about her werewolf infestation problem. "They're nasty buggers, though. They're not like normal werewolves that are smart and stuff. Think... zombie stupid. Which is pretty much what they are. Some mutated species that escaped a factory up by my prison. Their stupidity tends to be their downfall, but the problem's been going on for a while because I... well... I thought Flynn was going to handle it. But anyway.. the help would be appreciated."

She grinned. "You'll love the beaches! All bright and sunny, not to hot or too cold... and fish, lots of fish. Except.. I don't think they'll like Cala.. they don't like to come around when Demi's in the water."

That guy in there, his name was Xan. He was once the leader of Murder Inc, so almost everyone here would know him too, he figured. What happened to turn a hero into a crime boss? Vigilante didn't know, but that guy was going down.

"Great. I feel like a chump now, I was all worried for nothing. At least I exposed a crime ring and got the boss Xan wanting to go toe to toe." That was 2 days from now. In the meantime, Alec and the red head explained about a zombie-werewolf infestation on a paradise island somewhere that was owned by the red head. The first thing that came to mind had to be the chance to see Cala in a bikini, and quickly turned into the main reason he wanted to go.

He also wanted to go because these zombie-werewolves would be a perfect way to train and refine for the showdown with Xan. "Alright. I'll help with the pest problem. Any way I can help out..."

'It was a one time thing, really. Had I thought I was in any sort of danger I wouldn't have climbed in that car, but something in the back of my head was nagging me too, something that I just couldn't ignore, kinda like a gut instinct you know? As far as V goes.. yeah, I like him... a lot. Which is why I'm trying not to scare him off, and taking things slower. But, he's already helped me out a lot. He helped me make Devon stronger, and able to regenerate if she gets hurt, by something his dad started working on and he himself finished called Nanoids. I guess it's what he used on himself from what I understand.', she telepathically responded to Alec. That was about as much detail as she was willing to go into with her feelings for V, at least until V himself knew how she felt.

Trickster:

She looked to V. "My bad.. I really didn't mean for it to end up like that... I planned on just waiting to see where they took me and then breaking free... then they dragged you into and well.. yeah."

She looked back to Alec and then to Amaranth, figuring that some time with V on an island paradise sounded very, very nice, and just like the sort of thing to do after being kidnapped by a bunch of perverts. "Sounds like fun... I'll be the first vampire ever to get a tan!"

"Alright then. Sugure No Shima isn't on traditional maps, so i'll send the coordinates to your suit through the chip you sent me. You can leave anytime, i'm sure Amaranth will get there before you and be there to greet you when you arrive. You two keep up the good work, and do try to stay out of trouble..."

With all of this drama going on it was good to see that someone somewhere was doing what was asked of them. Alec figured that Amaranth's werewolf problem would be dealt with, and maybe Cala and Matt here would get close enough to where he'd finally spill it about this strange feeling that surrounded the kid, especially when stressed out. So far the info he'd collected was that the kid's father was a doctor. An inventor from the sounds of things. Nanoids. He'd have to look that up later. Alec could wait for the rest...

Amaranth hugged her grandad one last time and then turned. "I should get back... make sure everything's alright. I know Uncle Junior and my dad are there... but I'm going to have to find some way to get up some more staff around there... especially with Flynn now gone." A sigh escaped her and she shook her head.

"I'll come back and visit later grandad when I'm sure everything is all peaceful again, and I'll be somewhere along the beaches when you guys show up, I'm sure." With that she turned and left, figuring it was more than time to get back to the island and ensure everything was okay.

When was the last time he was on a beach? Or in some water for that matter. Matt couldn't remember. It was some time ago when he was about 9 or so. This little girl had an island all her own, that was quite awesome really. He was going to get to visit, and travel somewhere in the world he'd never been and isn't even on traditional maps or radar. Matt began to feel like a secret agent of some sort.

The dominating factor had to be Cala half naked. If Stretch was lucky even he'd be able to catch a glimpse. He grinned behind his helmet as he thought about all of her exposed skin, curves and dimples that he'd even get to feel on if he was lucky. After all, he did "save" her from a band of goons, right? Even though she wasn't in any danger, he'd fought through 3 floors of wise guys to find her. That had to count for something at the end of the day.

"I'm gonna go grab some things from my suite and then i'll head in that direction asap. I'll let you know how I get on, boss..." said V, turning to walk out of the office.

Cala mentally went over all she should grab for the trip to Amaranth's island. "Yeah, I'm going to go pack and let my sister know where I'm headed.... Then I'll head over to Sugure." She turned and walked out of the office, heading down to her suite to go pack up so that she could leave: and figuring she wasn't going to bring much, since she'd just buy whatever she needed there.
