Run an errand [Open, Comp. Members][NR]

It was a typical day in Edge. Something was going on in an alley between a bunch of goons, a girl, and a bounty hunter-looking guy. The girl and the guy looked more than capable of defending themselves, so he didn't watch the situation too long.

The situation over on Sunset ended without anyone being man handled, and Jr thought it had a lot to do with the sudden appearance of his father. He kept eyes on him after he left the scene, curious as to what he'd get into next. If he knew his father, his adventure genes still had to be making him itch after the episode in Pacific City, and it would only be a matter of time before he'd get into something else.

His hunch was right, and he left Makkura with Seraphina and one of those ninja that came back here with them in tow. Jr never really got the chance to meet the guy, but his name was... Kurai, if he remembered correctly. He had a twin. He was a Jinchuuriki, if he wasn't mistaken. A prodigy kid from a village where he and his twin were pretty much ignored; a village ran by 3, and only one seemed to care.

He shook his head to shake the thoughts of that pathetic world they lived in for so long, full of shit talkers that ran away scared in the end... His father, his aunt and Kurai were now on Sunset Island. From the looks of things, they were on some sort of exploration trip. No one had actually been back there in the wilds before, not even himself; his usual perch when he lived there was the beach. His father was off into another adventure, though this one wasn't as serious, and he was closer to home this time.

Still, Jr wanted a way to get in touch with him should anything serious happen, so he wanted to get a cellphone to him some kind of way. It would be easy to go himself, or perhaps just drop it through a warp zone, but he'd rather give the task to someone. The new guy... This would give Yata the chance to meet the head of the Kanes.

He whipped out his own cell phone, scrolled through the list until he came to Yata's face, and pressed it. "Hey, Yata... you awake? I need to talk to you about something, could you come up to the office?"

"Hey, Yata... you awake? I need to talk to you about something, could you come up to the office?"

He scrambled awake from within the sea of snack cake wrappers and empty cookie sheets, wiping crumbs from his mouth. With Jr's voice coming from his phone, he knew he'd done it now. He was about to get fired. One of those clowns he beat up got some serious injury, and pressed charges on the Company. Or, maybe those useless parents of his came looking for him and demanded that he come back home. Back to being unnoticed. Back to being hungry, back to going to a school that was more a battle ground, popularity contest and a fashion show than a learning facility.

Cleaning himself up and throwing away all of the garbage in his room, Yata pulled on his beanie and walked out of his suite with his board in his left arm. He took the stairs up a floor and walked to the office. "Now, before I get fired I just wanna let you know that those assholes asked for what happened to them," Yata said, not even giving Jr the time to tell him why he was calling him out. "Yes, I admit I kicked their asses, yes, I admit I used my new stuff on a couple of them, but this was years in the making! They asked for it!"

"Huh?"

Jr looked confused. It was true that he knew about the brawl he'd gotten into in front of his sister's club, and it also looked like he'd been lending a hand down there - he'd have to ask Demi to be sure - but he had no plans of firing the guy. So he got into a fight and kicked some ass? So?

"Ehhh, I don't care anything about that. Those were the guys from the day I met you, right? I figured something like that might happen, but that's not why I called you here." Jr laughed some as he remembered the video he watched. He didn't watch it all, so he didn't know that Demi had come out afterwards and offered him a job.

"I wanted to ask you a favor. My father Alec is over on my Niece's island, Sunset," he said, pointing to the big island over in the river. "I want to get one of these new Androids over to him so I have a way of keeping in touch. I could do it myself, but I figure this is an opportunity for you to meet my dad and my Aunt. He used to be the Boss here before me, and my Aunt... well, she's new in town. Anyways, you up for it? They're in pretty deep so i'll have to open a "door" for you."

This was a good way to also show his father that he'd left The Company in good hands, and that things were still rolling along after he'd left.

Jr wasn't going to fire him. That was a relief. Furthermore, Jr didn't care about the fight they got into, and even laughed about it. Violence was probably just a way of things around here, something he could get used to. So the Company didn't care if an ass or 2 had to get whooped, nice. Jr wanted him to run an errand: take one of the Android cell phones to Alec Kane, his father? And he was on that big island in the river, with his aunt.

Yata was wondering who the head of the family was, and now he'd get to meet him. Jr said Alec was pretty far in on the island, so he'd send him in through a "Door?"...Yata wasn't going to ask any questions or doubt what this kid could do anymore. He'd just wait and see what he'd do...

"...Uh, ok, cool," Yata said. "I'll do it, sure. A door, huh?... I'm ready when you are, Jr dude..."

"Awesome!" Jr said with a nod, and he got up from the leather chair to come around the desk and hand the cellphone to Yata. "Let's get this underway asap then. Gotta warn you though. The area of the island where my dad is considered kinda dangerous. Wild animals and poisonous snakes and whatnot. Keep your wits about you, yeah? Also, keep your pendant out, because he might attack you. Dad is a bit of a battle head, been fighting in wars and such since he was a kid. He had a big thing on trusting people he doesn't know."

Jr reached out into the space in front of him. The space before him began to warp and crinkle like plastic wrap. Jr pulled open a "door" of sorts from this space. Through it, the heat from Sunset Island could be felt. The smell of the wild hit the nostrils. Animals and insects could be heard. "I can't send you to his exact location, but he should be nearby. I'll leave the door open so you can come back through, just come back to it after you find my dad, yeah?"

Portal Creation:

Yata should have been scared or terrified to see the Jr dude open a door right in front of him out of thin air. He should have said that something like this wasn't possible, but here it was, right before his eyes. He could feel the heat from in there. He could smell the wild grass, the trees, the animal shit. He could hear the insects and the sounds of other wild life. He could see it. These Kane people were really something else...

Yata was handed the cellphone. Jr told him that he wasn't able to send him directly to where his father was, but he'd have to do a little searching. Yata just prayed that he wasn't attacked by a lion or something. "Alright... I'll find em and be back before lunch time," Yata said, stepping towards the door. "Wish me luck..."

He stepped through the doorway onto an island, in an area inhabited by wild animals...

MAYBE ABOUT AN HOUR PASSES...

A camera pointed at the situation showed Jr that Yata and Kurai got into sort of a spar. Jr figured his father would allow something like that, but stop it before it got too serious, which was exactly what happened. Yata gave his father the phone, and his father gave him something in return. As for what, he'd have to wait until Yata returned to find out.

Yata left the scene, and by then he should have been walking back through the door. When he did is when Jr would close it again. "I see you got to tussle around with Kurai the ninja, huh?" Jr asked. "Not bad, you were able to hold your own too. Ninjas are usually trained from the time they're able to walk to kill..."

Jr changed the screens again, as it didn't seem his father was doing anything to extreme. He seemed to just be on some sort of exploration/survival kind of thing, which was fine. "So, what was that my dad gave you? Was it something for me?"

Demi, figuring she hadn't been to the office in a few days and wanting to check in on things and especially to see what had happened with the Amaranth situation, wandered in the doors in time to witness Yata leaving the 'door' that had brought him to the office from where ever. She gracefully fell into a chair near Junior's desk with a grin. "Ah, one of my favorite helpers. You've done wonders to keep the trouble down at Zero Sum. My other bouncers love you."

She shifted more comfortably, figuring she'd let Junior handle his business with Yata before she began to ask too many questions. Demi dug around in the pockets of her white trench coat until she found a red wrapped lollipop. She ripped the wrapper off, tossed it skillfully in the garbage, and then popped the lollipop in her mouth.

Yata was back in Edge, in the office. Was that actually real? Was he dreaming? Yata was still sweating from the heat of that island.

When he was back in that big building, Jr did something that caused that "door" thing to close. What Jr said made Yata look surprised. "Wha?... That dude was a ninja? Like, the real thing?... Crazy man..." he said.

What did his dad give to give him? Yata slid it across the desk. "A whole lotta money," Yata answered. "He never said why, just to give it to you, Jr dude..."

As for what Demi said when she walked in, this made his cheeks turn a red color again, and him to look away, rubbing the back of his head. "Just...j-just doing m-my job, I-I guess..."

"Yeah, a real ninja. You coulda died, dude. To be honest I think he was going easy on you. That guy can throw mountains and make the ground swallow you. That little ball he tried to hit you with? If he was serious, he coulda made it as big as a house. Good job though..."

Demi came in and said that Yata was doing a good job helping her. Jr himself noticed that he'd been spending a decent amount of time around Zero Sum, and as already mentioned, he'd saw the fight Yata and those other guys from they day they met got into in the parking lot. "Thanks alot for helping my sister by the way..."

When Yata slid the sack across the desk, Jr opened it and counted it some, estimating it to be roughly 200k credits. "Why'd dad send all this money back here to me? It's not like I need it..." Jr was about to throw it into one of the drawers, but was reminded of what Niala said about Yata and his messed up homelife. Jr closed the sack again and slid it back across the desk towards Yata.

"Here, you have it, Yata. You went over into a dangerous environment with no hesitation where you could have been seriously hurt or killed. My sister speaks well about you too; Demi wouldn't say anything like that if it weren't true. Don't spend it all in one place..."

Demi grinned again while nodding in agreement with what Junior had said: she wouldn't say it if it wasn't true, that was just the sort of person she was. She bit into her cherry flavored lollipop as she watched Junior hand the bag of money back towards Yata, telling him to take it. She figured he deserved it too, and it got her thinking about how else she could repay Ka'lara for all of her hard work the next time she saw her. The girl had been completely loyal for the past seven or so years that she had worked at Zero Sum... and Demi wanted to see her to go on and do even bigger and better things.

"Talk about a nice bonus.", Demi said after pulling the lollipop out of her mouth for a moment. She stared at the bite impression she had made in the thing before returning it to her mouth.

Focusing her attention onto Junior her brows would furrow together slightly in thought. "So, uh... what exactly happened on Amaranth's island? I take it Dez didn't nuke the place considering I could smell the island when I came in to the office..."

Yata picked the sack up again, looking at it with wide eyes. Two hundred thousand credits? All to himself?... He counted through them thinking what he could possibly spend so much money on. He almost said he didn't deserve it, but didn't he?... Neither one of his parents paid him much mind; his mother often forgot that he was alive. His sisters and brothers laughed at him when there was nothing to eat, and they all seemed to get everything they wanted while he was left assed out.

So yeah. With his evil grin, he did take that money. It was his time, he figured, after a life full of misery and humiliation. All he needed now was a girlfriend... if he could ever get over his extreme shyness around pretty girls. "Thanks alot, bosses... Think i'll go hit up the town now if it's all the same with you?..."

Yata turned towards the doors, thinking about what he'd go buy first...

"Enjoy yourself, Yata..."

Demi asked what happened on Sunset, which brought his frown back. "Nova, the so-called "Cousin" of ours accused Amaranth of killing Seraphina and Sicarius," was Jr's answer, relaxing into the leather recliner again. "Showed up in a rage, pointed a sword at her. I donno how Dez and Ghost held themselves back; if it was me over there, I would have torn that dude apart, family or not. The same last name doesn't mean shit to me. I never even knew that dude. All he did the whole time I was over there was sit in some room somewhere watching porn or beating off or something. We lived on that island for years and I rarely ever saw his ass.

"Dez and Ghost got into battle mode, and before things got serious dad showed up. Whatever he said calmed things down. I couldn't see everything he said, but what I did see was dad take responsibility; he said 'it's my fault, if you want to do something about it, take it out on me,' long story short. He didn't, and after dad said something else he flew off. Nova left not long after that. I don't think he'd be welcome over there anymore, and if he shows up here for any reason, there won't be any conversation."

While explaining, Jr brought up the video of that day. He thought perhaps it was a good thing that he wasn't there, because things would have been much more bloody. Even if his father showed up, there wouldn't have been any stopping him. The one thing you didn't do was threaten family; family that took care of you and put a roof above your head for years. Scum like that was lower than trash in Jr's eyes.

Demi watched Yata leave and couldn't help but grin, wondering what he was going to spend all of that money on. She then focused her attention back to her brother.

Demi's gaze narrowed and her temper instantly flared to life, causing her halo to glow brightly in response and begin to vibrate, as she listened to Junior describe exactly why Nova had gone over there to Sunset Island in the first place. Why would anyone think that Amaranth would do such a thing? A frown formed on her face, but she kept quiet and listened to the rest of what Junior had to say about the situation. She listened as Junior explained how he didn't know how Ghost and Dez held themselves back, even in battle mode, and how he would have ripped the guy apart - something that Demi nodded in agreement with. Then Junior explained how their dad had shown up and had taken responsibility for what had happened with Sicarius and Seraphina and given Nova a chance to do something about it, which he didn't.

Demi took a deep breath and then another, forcing herself to calm down before her halo shattered or something worse happened like her going and hunting Nova down. When she was calm enough she focused her attention onto her brother and just shook her head. "Maybe it's a good thing I left the office when I did, I probably wouldn't have been able to stop myself from going over there and ripping the guy to pieces. Blaming Amaranth for something like that...", she just shook her head again, trying not to dwell on it too much before she pissed herself off again.

Then, a random thoughtful look came over her face and another question popped into her mind "So, another question - on a less angrier topic. You thinking about recruiting anymore people into the Company? I mean besides Yata..."

Jr could feel her anger. Since he'd learned to harness his rage and use it to his advantage, feeling the rage of someone else was just like feeling a breeze of wind. it was just a good thing that it wasn't him over there that day.

"Hunh... hiring more people into The Company... I donno," he responded to Demi's question. "Yata was just a spur of the moment thing. Me and Niala went out one day, and these guys tried picking a fight with us. Yata was one of them. The other two were bozos, and one even tried to shoot me, but Yata was something else with that skateboard. It's a good thing too; it turns out Yata was only acting like that cause he was mistreated at home and in school. He's not really that bad... After that though, I guess a few more trustworthy people on the payroll wouldn't be a bad idea, why? You got someone in mind?"

Maybe it was about time there were some new faces around here. Yata was just the beginning, it seemed. Maybe another recruitment thing like his dad had a few years back? Nah... nothing that big yet.

Demi rubbed her chin in contemplation: she did have a single suggestion. Someone that she trusted to run her entire business when she was gone: Ka'lara. "Well, I do have someone in mind, actually. Her name is Ka'lara but it used to be Nanalie. She appeared from the ninja world about seven years ago: she was one of Spook's students. She's been bar-tending for me ever since, and doing pretty much any other job I handed her. Very trustworthy. In fact, she's the one who runs Zero Sum when I have to step away for a bit. She's never missed a day of work, and she takes care of the other employees, looks out for them."

Demi stared down at her lollipop stick for a second and then tossed it into the garbage. "When she first appeared here she found herself half angel half demon and took on a new name. However, recently after the appearance of Konoha she ended up waking up converted back to her old self: back to being a ninja. It's odd, but she's dealing with it. I asked her if she planned on staying in Edge and she said yes. Edge has apparently grown on her." Demi shrugged. "I planned on giving her a lump sum of money, but I figured maybe a bump up in the world job wise would be nice too if you're interested in hiring someone like her."

Jr had heard about her. She was loyal. On top of that, she was a student of Spook. Jr was the one who'd gone to save her from Remiel, after he'd lost his mind, or had his breakdown, or whatever that was. She'd been down there in Zero Sum for years with no incidents, and she'd even been a bouncer on several occasions.

"Hmmmh. Ka'lara, huh. I don't see any reason why she couldn't. Alright, how bout you have her come up here for a chat. See if she's interested..." said Jr, adjusting his bottom in the leather chair. Adding more numbers onto the Company roster wouldn't be a bad idea, especially seeing as there was some secret cult lurking in the shadows with enough funding to make drugs and devices that rendered supernatural folk into mere humans.

"She has been loyal for for years now, that's kinda rare nowadays. Somebody always has some hidden agenda or some shit, or they just wanna come in here and lay on their asses. It'll be good to have some trustworthy people on the payroll..."

Demi nodded to Junior and focused her attention onto her phone after she pulled it out of her pocket. She scrolled quickly through her contactst list until she found Ka'lara's house number - since she didn't have a cellphone. She pressed the SEND button and put the phone to her ear. She listened to it ring three times before Ka'lara picked it up.

"Hello."

"Hello, Ka'lara. It's Demi."

"Hi Demi. I wasn't supposed to work today, was I?"

"Nah, you weren't scheduled. However, I did have a favor to ask of you. Could you come to Darkman Tower right quick? My brother has something he wants to talk to you about."

"Uh... okay. Sure, give me a few minutes and I'll be there."

"Take your time. See you in a few.", Demi responded before she hung up. She slipped the cellphone back into her pocket with a grin as she looked towards Junior. "She'll be here in a hot minute." Demi leaned back comfortably in her chair, contemplating as she did so if Ka'lara was going to end up taking the job that Junior offered her or not: it certainly would put more money in her pocket, and get her out of that one room apartment she kept living in.

Ka'lara stared down at her house phone for several seconds after she had got off of it with Demi: the boss of the city wanted to have a conversation with her? She couldn't think of anything she had done wrong and so she wasn't going to let herself feel nervous or anxious about it. She was already dressed: a green tank top with a red plaid top over that, a pair of grey capris pants and black boots. She wasn't going to bother dressing up like she would if she was going to work at Zero Sum because that would have just taken far too long.

So, dressed as she was she went and grabbed her keys before leaving her one room apartment. She locked the door behind her, and then did up the deadbolt to attempt to dissuade any would be theives from trying to break in and steal her few possessions. She glanced around in the dingy hallway before she headed down the steps and out to the street. She looked left and then right and then took off at a run towards the large tower that she could see in the distance.

She bobbed and weaved her way through traffic, around people, and around buildings as she went, reminded very much of her times racing through Konoha to do one job or another. Her grin spread across her face as she continued on towards the tower: she loved to run.

She slowed however as she neared the tower and walked the rest of the way, looking around as she did so. She tilted her head back and stared up at the huge tower that disappeared up into clouds, wondering just how far up it actually went. She walked up to the doors, figuring that someone would likely be there to greet her when she arrived: especially since she was now apparently expected. "Hello? I'm Ka'lara... Demi said the boss man wanted to see me..."

The Loyal Butler would already be waiting. He'd open the gate and show her across the courtyard to the entrance into Darkman Tower, then through the lobby and to an elevator that would quickly have her on the 1,000th floor.

When she would step off of the elevator onto a floor that looked between a hotel and an office building, to her right and down a long hall would be an office at the end with glass doors with the Company logo on them both. In this office would be couches and tables on either side. In the back of the room was a large desk with holograms floating above it; next to it a smaller desk belonging to Niala. Behind this desk was sitting Jr.

"Hi," Jr would say with a wave. "You probably remember me from that day with Remiel. My name's Alec Kane Junior, but just call me Jr. I took over as Boss of Edge when my dad brought Makkurakagure here from the other world; that's the black-looking place out the window to your right. I already know this for myself, but Demi here says you've been a loyal worker in Zero Sum for years. I hear you used to be a student of Spook over in the other world too. If you're looking to move up some in the world, I can offer you employment here in The Company. Would you be interested?"

Demi remained comfortably seated in her chair as she waited patiently for Ka'lara to show up. She knew the girl had a bit of pep in her step and liked to do things in a timely manner, so she wasn't surprised by how quickly the girl showed up. When Ka'lara would walk into the office Demi would give her the usual nod of greeting before looking towards her brother and listening to the offer he was making Ka'lara.

When her brother would finish speaking she would then turn her silvery colored gaze onto Ka'lara, wondering what the girl was going to say in response to all of this: it was definitely an opportunity of a life time. She grinned encouragingly, hoping that the other female would accept.

Ka'lara was shown through the gates, across the courtyard, and over to an elevator by a butler. The elevator had to be some kind of special since it got her to the top floor in under a minute: something she was sure was going to take at least a half an hour. She went down the hallway, glancing around in curiousity as she did so, before she reached what was obviously an office. She knocked and walked in. She returned Demi's nod and then focused her attention on the male behind the desk.

She recognized him from the day that that guy had tried to kill her, and therefore nodded to show she recognized him. She glanced out the window towards the darkened area when Junior mentioned Makkuragakure, having been wondering exactly what that was. She listened to everything he had to say, about how Demi had told him she had been a loyal worker for many years but how he had known that already, and how they also knew she had been a student of Spook's back in the ninja world.

She glanced over to Demi who was grinning in an encouraging method and then looked back to Junior, grinning herself. "No fooling? That'd be awesome. I'm definitely interested."

Jr nodded his head and opened a drawer next to him on the desk. He slid across it a pendant, "C" shaped and golden. It had a chain attached to it. "This is the Company Pendant," he said. "Except for the most secret areas, it'll give you full access to Darkman Tower. It'll also let you perform game changing abilities around the city. Until recently, if you tried something like that, the Dead Zone my dad and grand dad put up around Edge would kill you if you tried without that pendant, but nowadays the abilities just won't work. Also, if you know how to teleport, never try to teleport into this building, even with the pendant. You won't like the end result..."

Company Pendant:

Next, Jr opened a bottom drawer, and then a black box inside the drawer. From it he pulled the Company android cellphone with an earpiece, and put it on the desk. "This is our cellphone. It'll connect you to the Company party line. It's private and can't be tapped or hacked. it also lets you make normal calls anywhere. When you touch the screen your info will be downloaded automatically, and it'll let you get in touch with the other Company members instantly. All of us have one, and I got tired of calling everyone up here when there's an issue or something, so take care of it."

Company Cellphone:

Last but not least, Jr stood after pulling something from his top drawer, stepping around the desk and over to ka'lara himself, his large white feathery wings twitching and folding up behind him again. He handed her a card key. "And finally, this is the key to one of the suites downstairs, from floor 999 to 990. Pay attention to the locks on the doors, if the button on it is red, that means it's occupied, if it's green that means the room is open. Welcome to The Company!" Jr shook her hand.

Then he went to sit back down and took a serious look. "I should fill you in on current events. Don't discuss this with anyone outside of The Company... About a week ago, a band of thugs kidnapped one of our members named Cala, a Vampire. The said something about wanting something called the 'Apple of Eden.'" While explaining this, he brought up the video on a holographic screen and expanded it so that Ka'lara could see it clearly. "These guys have technology and drugs that can turn people who use supernatural and extraordinary abilities into mere humans. Another member who calls himself The Vigilante - you've probably seen him on the news and on the billboards around town - went to rescue her. When he got to the leader, before he died he said 'someone will replace me,' which tells me that there's more to these guys than just those that were in that building. They were too well funded to be ended right then and there; i'm pretty sure they're lurking in the shadows somewhere planning their next move. They aren't above kidnapping and torture, and I don't have all of the answers on this situation just yet, so be warned, and keep your cellphone on you at all times. Don't try to be a hero, and don't be ashamed to call for help. If I have to come myself I will. Nobody else is getting hurt on my watch."

Demi was glad to hear Ka'lara accept and watched as Junior handed over the usual items: a Company pendant,a Company cellphone, and a key card that would allow her access to the suits of the tower. Demi had been willing to get Ka'lara a new place to live as she had learned recently the kind of conditions she was living in, but was glad to know she no longer had to worry about that. Ka'lara would not only have a new place to live, but it was the most safest building in all of Edge.

She would wait until Junior finished speaking and even shook Ka'lara's hand before she would get to her feet. "Glad to see you accepted. You'll also find that a hundred thousand credits have been put into your account: consider it a late bonus for all of the good work you've been putting in throughout the years. I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Yata when I hired him on as a bouncer: if you have to miss work because Junior has you off doing something don't worry about it."

She looked at her watch and then sighed. "I need to get going; I have to make sure the nights stock comes in on time so we're not short. Call me if you need me." She would pause long enough to see if either of them had anything else to say to her, or that they needed from her, and then she would turn and walk out and down the hall to the elevator...

Ka'lara took the Company pendant and hung it around her neck, hiding the C underneath of her shirt so she didn't have to worry about it getting hooked or snagged on anything. She listened as Junior explained that the Company pendant would give her access to all but the most secret portions of the Tower, and allow her to use powers she otherwise couldn't have. She made a mental note to never try teleporting into Darkman Tower even if she learned how to do such a thing.

She then took the cellphone and pressed her finger on it, watching as it uploaded her information just as Junior said it would: she would keep the cellphone on her and charged at all times in case she was needed for anything.

Then he was handing her a keycard and explaining that there were suites between floors 990 and 999 and how if the lock was green it was open for her to have. This caused a shocked but happy look to fall upon her face: a new place to live as well as a job? This was epic. She had never imagined actually living in the tower.

She shook Junior's hand and then watched as he sat back down. She listened to the situation he described and nodded in understanding. "Alright, I'll keep an eye out. I've got no intentions of getting myself into that kind of situation...", she said as she reached up and scratched her head. "And I'll make sure I give a call if I end up in something I can't handle."

She then looked at Demi as she stood up and spoke of how there would be a deposit made of a hundred thousand credits into Ka'lara's account.
