| Some part of Demi in the back of her brain, piled deep under the tons of /garbage/ she had yet to be able to filter through, did not enjoy seeing Maxi get kicked in the chest. Did not enjoy that one bit. But why? Why did it matter? Why did she not like seeing that? As she dug into her own mind she found herself face to face with another one of those headaches. One of those Fuck My Life headaches.
The headache racked her brain so hard that her form lost all sort of solidity, her heartbeat vanishing about as quickly as it had shown up, leaving nothing for little Nanalie to continue to sit on. She blinked, confused for a moment as the child fell through her lap and hit the floor several inches below.
But, she couldn't dwell on it for long. Some sort of compulsion, made stronger by the way the man everyone kept referring to as Flynn left, had Demi wanting to follow Maxi. To haunt him. To stalk him through every path he chose to take after leaving the room. To keep after him until that mental wall in the back of her brain came down and allowed her to remember who she was. What she was... no. No, what she /had/ been. Yes, that was right.
She found herself unable to dwell on the fact that for, even but a minute, she had become human. Had had a pulse, a beating heart, had needed to breath... No, she was far too distracted by the need to get over the mental wall, the mental block, the one she could hear whispers and words from behind. The one that kept taunting her. Kept wanting to make her beat her head off of the nearby wall several times until they shut up. Until all of those babbling thoughts that kept talking over one another, that kept pestering her, shut up and left her alone.
But, she was a ghost. A spirit. She wasn't going to be able to beat her head off of the wall to shut them up. Even if she could, would it honestly do anything? Would it stop the constant headache, the constant buzzing of whatever was behind that wall? She had a feeling it wouldn't...
Demi finally found herself paying very close attention to the conversation at hand. The man everyone kept calling Maxi had turned into some sort of dangerous looking creature, and Alec... well, he seemed unafraid. Another of those headaches began to invade her brain, but she didn't shy away from it, didn't try and make it stop. She started to push herself through it, push past the mental pain, and suddenly... well, suddenly she knew who Maxi was. Sort've. Kind've... it was something.
She watched all of the damage that had been done get repaired, blinking in astonishment for a moment as she did so. That was until Ghost spoke to her, of course, and then she looked towards him and gave a nod of a response.
She got up from the floor and slowly and cautiously moved over and around Alec, stepping to the other side of Maxi. She extended her pointer finger of her right hand and aimed it towards his arm closest to her, aiming to poke him. With her concentration just focused enough, she was able to do just that: a light, probably easily overlooked, poke on the arm. "I... you're my father. I.. don't know how. Because there's also this bald man with a beer gut in my head that is my father. But.. you... you're there too. I don't know why... "
Well.. it was a start, right?
"I think... I should follow you around, because there's this brick wall in my brain that I can't get past, but I think... I think what's on the other side has something to do with you..."

| Destiny watched everything without a single show of emotion on her face; except anger. She didn't understand why Flynn had just given up so easily. Had just turned and walked out like he'd been defeated. Like he didn't want to fight anymore. Her lightning blue gaze snapped to Demi as she lost her solid form and heartbeat once more, and then to Nanalie.
She didn't even want to think what might have been going on in that little girl's mind. But, even though she didn't want to, she could surely imagine it. She could imagine how much pain she was having to deal with, to feel. This was why she had sent her own daughter out of here when she did. This was why she didn't want Amaranth anywhere near this show of drama. Her daughter was older than Nanalie and she didn't want her to have to deal with it simply because Destiny herself knew what sort of mental trauma and pain came from this sort of shit.
Pain and mental anguish little Nanalie was now probably going through as she watched her family break apart. Watched her family shatter into pieces in such a violent and unpredictable manner.
Destiny saw the way Demi was staring at Maxi, and while she refused to poke and prod around in Demi's mind - not wanting to risk causing her any sort of issues due to her fragile state of being - she could imagine what she too was feeling. She looked as if she wanted to follow Maxi; for whatever reason that might have been. She wouldn't stop her. She wouldn't ask her to stay, or guilt trip her. She had a feeling, that either way things went, Demi was going to come back... she always came back.
She looked to Ghost and gave a nod after watching him repair the damage that had been caused: and glad he did. Last thing any of them needed was for her grandfather to show up pissed off because the building was being destroyed...
She listened to the exchange between her father and Maxi, an eyebrow raising for the first time since she had entered the office. So Maxi cared enough to actually threaten her father? Not a smart idea, the threatening part at least, but he cared. A soft smile replaced her anger, and her rage began to diminish. A smile which grew as she watched Demi walk over to Maxi and poke him on the arm, explaining that she knew, and yet didn't know, who he was. At least it was something...

Why was life so cruel? Or so hard? First.... first she had seen her mother die. Had watched on that screen in the lab's security room the sword cutting through her mother's flesh and bone of her neck like butter. All while her body burned from that bullet. She had watched her head roll, and her body fall. Had watched Cross kick her after she was already fallen, something which to even Nanalie was just another insult to add on to the insult of death.
But now?
Now her father was saying his final goodbye. Now her father was walking out of the room, as if he had been defeated and was just going to put up with it. As if he wasn't going to fight anymore. Why? Why not stand there and fight? Fight to keep Demi, fight to keep herself? Why just let them go so easily?
She wanted to cry, at first. Wanted to turn her head and sob into her mother's chest for the next several hours. To beg like any other child would do for her mother to fix things. To make things right. To make her father come back in. To make her father be happy. To remember him so that he could be happy. So that everyone could be happy again.
Then, well then the anger set in. Fast and white hot. She was angry that her mother had been killed. Angry that no one had been around to save her, to stop this from happening. To stop any of this from happening. Then she felt anger towards her father. Anger for him giving up so easily, for so willingly just walking out of the office: off to die somewhere. Off to leave them behind. To abandon them.
Then... nothing. She stopped feeling. She suddenly stopped caring. She didn't know why, she didn't want to. Like this the pain was gone. Like this she didn't have to suffer. She could be the little five year old girl she wanted to be. She didn't have to think about the bad things, about adult things. She didn't have to worry.
All of these emotions; sadness, anger, and then acceptance or nothingness... they all happened within seconds of each other. Her mind flipping from one to the other as if it couldn't decide until it reached the last. Until it just stopped caring. Stopped feeling. Would it be like this for forever? Probably not. One day she would probably face her emotions again. She would face what all of this hurt and chaos felt like. But for now, for now her mind was blissfully numb.
She had already removed herself from her mother's lap after she had gone back to lacking a physical form, so she was already standing. She watched the exchange between Mister Kane and her grandfather with completely emotionless and empty eyes.
She turned, looking her mother in the eye for a moment, noticing the way her gaze remained on Maxi, the way she watched him as if she wanted to go follow him somewhere... She knew her mother needed her memories back. That was going to be the only way to fix all of these issues. To fix what was going on. So, in an act of selflessness no child should ever have to show she spoke, "Go mommy. I know you want to follow him, you want to remember who he is. I'll be okay here... I'm.. I'm going to go see Niala."
She didn't know why she wanted to. Why she had to. But, at this point in time she was tired of over thinking things. Tired of trying to read the hidden meaning behind everything. Tired of having to even think at all. She was just going to go with the flow and see where she ended up at the end. Without further word, and with the lack of child-like happiness in her eyes, or any sort of emotion at all, she walked across the office, reached up, grabbed the doorknob, and exited.
She'd be better soon... Niala would see to it, she was sure.

"Fuck you, Kane."
The beast stood up straight. neck tilting to the left. Loud cracking noises filled the air as he did, allowing the changes to begin reversing. Well, mostly. The wings wrapped around his body, hooking together to form a cloak of sorts. As his body grew smaller and the tail was sucked back into his spine, the elder licked his teeth, forcing them to retract into his jaws.
"Do not question if I care, my friend. You know as well as I do that I do, sometimes too much." Stepping down from the desk, the male smiled at Demitria, and nodded his head to her. "You are more than welcome to follow me... I will help you, dear. Madness looks after its down."

| Alec went back and sat back behind his desk, flopping back into the recliner with a sigh. Alec was pretty positive that his plan to rile them up in order to bring some sort of a reaction out of Demi would work. It was just a shame he was only half right. It worked with Maxi, and Demi seemed to suddenly remember who he was. This was indeed a good thing. But Flynn... he gave up and left, without struggle, arguing, fighting, anything. He just... left.
Perhaps Ghost could put a word or two in his head, cause him to come back, and maybe this family didn't have to be shattered in the fashion that it was looking to be. Then Alec could get back to handling the regular, harmless problems without getting so pissed off and emotional. Lord knew he was tired of these soap operas...
"Destiny...Nanalie had that look in her eye that I saw in yours when you were 4... so if anyone knows what she's going through, it's surely you. Without someone to guide her like I did you, bad things could happen... I need you to go talk to her, keep an eye on her. Otherwise, one day we could be facing a brand new evil..."

| She watched Nanalie leave out of the corner of her eye, and made no movement to stop the child. There wasn't a lot she could do right now: she had to get her memories back, she had to learn who she was again. Or else nothing was going to be fixed.
Her hopes were getting high, she was remembering some things. Not all, but some. And that was far better than none at all. So, following after Maxi was about the best plan she could come up with: though, she'd probably pester the hell out of him with her one hundred and one questions because one way or another... she was going to find out about herself again.
After watching him change back, and then listening to the words he spoke to her she grinned, glad he had agreed. "Excellent!"

| Destiny watched Nanalie walk out, her heart beginning to feel like it was aching. She had seen the look, and knew what that look spoke of, even before her father said anything. She had worn a similiar look: and if that little girl didn't get out of that funk she was in... well, her father was right, they would be looking at a whole new evil. And given what that little girl was? What she was already, at just five years old capable of? They might not win...
Her response was a nod and she pushed lightly off of the window she had still been leaning on and crossed the room in a quick walk. She paused at the door, throwing a backwards glance to her father, Maxi, an then finally Demi. "....I'll do my best to keep her from... from her inner demons." She opened the door and stepped out, closing it behind herself as she went after Nanalie.. off to save the child's sanity, what little there may be left. She knew these inner demons, knew them all by name... and she'd be damned if Nanalie was going to bow to them...
