Another Meeting is in order [NR][Niala, or Invite]

With everything that was going on since he helped pull his friend and son-in-law Ghost out of another dimension where he was slowly being devoured, he hadn't really been paying attention to Company affairs. Alec kept a constant eye on him just in case he decided to flip out again. Alec had even went so far as to remove the majority of those memories from Ghost's brain, so that when he slept he didn't have bad dreams, and have a relapse that ended up with him tearing up the tower.

When he finally did manage to peel his eyes away from the screen that he had situated on the left side of his desk at all times, the screen to the camera in Ghost's room to keep an eye out, he noticed that The Company had recently gained a new member. Alec pulled up the file on her.

A magical being, and only 13 years old. Alec wasn't one to discriminate; Ghost was just a kid when he met him, and Destiny had slaughtered an entire organization at only 4 years of age. Kids were often the best kinds of warriors and fighters to have in your pocket, because most wouldn't suspect the child to do anything wrong, granting them a natural invisibility.

Glancing through her history, Alec could see that the child was somewhat of a psychic, and could manipulate time. It made him think of his own son, Alec Jr, who could also mess with time, though this was very rare. Sooner or later he'd be popping back up around here, having taken to wandering around at random just like his grandfather.

Alec thought it would be best to meet the new employee and inform her of the situation regarding the Dead Zone Phenomena, before she did something that would lead to her premature death. He pushed a button on his desk which opened a line to his loyal butler.

"The new kid, if she still on Tower grounds, show her the way up to my office," he said.

Niala was standing right outside of the tower's doors staring up at the sky. Her hands were dug into the pockets of her black jeans, and her hoodie was zipped shut, sleeves down against the sunlight. Her light skin meant she burnt easily, and she might heal rather quickly, but sunburn was something that she liked to avoid anyway. The hood of her hoodie was down, but the black and white baseball cap was pulled down over her shortish length black hair, casting her face in minor shadow.

"Miss?"

Niala lifted her head, blue eyes looking to the butler that had stuck his head out of the door. She blinked, wondering what anyone would want with her. But, before she could respond the butler was speaking again.

"You're needed on the 1,000th floor. The Boss wants to see you."

Niala simply nodded and followed the butler inside and to the elevator. She shifted her hands from her jean pockets to the pockets of her hoodie on the way up; staying quiet as her mind churned as to why the Boss of all people wanted to see her. She couldn't think of anything she had done wrong so for now she kept her worry to a minimum.

She was then off of the elevator and following the butler's instructions down the hall. Stopping outside of the office door she knocked softly and then entered. She closed the door quietly behind herself, blue gaze taking in the interior of the office as she did so before falling on Alec Kane. She took a few steps forward and then spoke. "You uh.. wanted to see me?"

She'd set foot into a plush office with white walls and blue carpets. Comfortable leather couches sat a various points in the large office, some of which had tables in front of them with flat scree televisions upon them. On some of the tables were moves, on other tables, video games. Either side of the office had display cases that showed off various guns, swords and ammunition types.

In the rear of the office was a large blue & gold customized desk that Alec sat behind. The man was dressed as he usually was: a grey coat buttoned at the neck, a shirt that looked like bandages, but was actually constructed of a Kevlar material, loose fitting slacks and steel toed boots. A golden ring hovered just above the top of his head, glowing, where it always was. Silver eyes move from the screen linked to Ghost's room to watch as the girl walked in.

"Yes, I wanted to see you. Please, have a seat, get comfortable," said Alec while pushing a button on his desk. A compartment in the floor opened in front of his desk, and a seat rose up from it. The seat was constructed of a foam/gel memory allow that shaped itself to the body of the person that sat in it, ensuring maximum comfort, and would feel to the person sitting in it as if sitting on a cloud, or something remotely similar. "Can I get you something to drink, Ms Creed?" She was a child, but she was getting into a grown up business, so Alec would treat her as such.

The office might have got some sort of awestruck reaction from her had she not been worried as to why the Boss wanted to see her. So, she kept her attention and focus on him; at least until that chair showed up and he told her to sit down. She took another few steps, over to the chair, and upon removing her hands from her hoodie pockets she sat herself down, folding her hands in front of her.

At his question on if she wanted a drink she shook her head no. "No, thank you. I'm good.", she said, soft spoken voice, and always with the manners. They'd been taught to her since before she could even walk; and would probably always stick with her. She waited for him to speak again, keeping her eyes on him instead of looking around like perhaps a normal child would. But, she learned young to keep her eyes on the moving things in the room, and leave the rest for later observation; less like to get yourself in trouble that way.

Alec's eyes would go from her to the screen into Ghost's room, then back to her. Ghost seemed fine for the most part, but he couldn't help but to have that same fatherly worry for him that he often had for Destiny or Amaranth. Ghost looked fine for now, so he turned the screen off so he could concentrate fully upon this meeting.

Niala seemed to have a positive aura, meaning that she seemed to be a good person. Alec knew full well that looks could be deceiving. The vibe she gave off was that she was worried that she was in trouble or had done something wrong, neither of which was the case. Alec had a concerned expression on his face that could be confused with anger or disappointment, mostly because of Ghost, so he replaced this look with his usual calm expression and grinned some.

"No need to be worried, you're not in trouble. I called you here to get to know you. You're pretty young to be wanting to become involved with The Company, and I know any parent in their right mind wouldn't let their 13 year old child join up with the likes of killers, psychos and mercenaries." Alec adjusted his bottom in his leather recliner and rested his elbows on the rests of the chair. "So tell me about yourself. Who are you, Niala? Why are you interested in joining the Company at such a young age, and what do you have that you can offer us?"

Ability used:

Niala relaxed when he said she wasn't in trouble, but her expression darkened at the mention of parents. Her mother was dead of course, she died giving Niala life. Her father... well, that was a topic she liked to avoid when possible as she tended to break anything she was holding. Good thing she'd said no to that drink then. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to remain calm despite the topic.

She thought over her words carefully before responding; she also found herself wondering how much he already knew about her. "My mother's not alive to say what I do; she died giving birth to me. My father... doesn't deserve the title. He was always a gambler, and never a successful businessman. He disappeared after the... people... he owed money to snatched me up to try and force him to pay them back. They didn't know my father hated me, so when they realized he wasn't going to pay them back.. they sold me off to someone else in an attempt to get their money's worth. That was my life, at least... till I got free." She didn't mention how she did it of course, she would if he asked, but poisoning someone in the manner in which she did was not something she liked to tell people if she could avoid it.

She took a deep breath; she hated talking about her past; even as short as it was. "So yeah.. that's the short less detailed version of my life. I guess, my reasoning for wanting to join is wanting a purpose. I have none, besides finding my father, and so far he's been a bit... tricky, to put it mildly. I have two rather... rare abilities. The first being I can manipulate time, move through it, go backwards or forwards. I can even go to other places doing it, using it to travel where ever I desire. My second ability is much the same in a way. I can, with anything I touch, see the past, future, and more importantly the present of anyone who had touched that object before me. I can see the present in so much detail that I can see and hear exactly what they're doing at that current moment without having to be anywhere near them, and without being detected." She didn't mention her psychokinesis, that wasn't a rare ability anymore, even with the way she could use it.

She fell silent, figuring she had answered all of his questions. So, there was nothing left to do but wait for his reply.

So she was an orphan, the same as he was, in a sense. Alec had parents, but he didn't remember them. He was told at a very early age that he'd been cast out of heaven for causing mischief, and all of those memories were lost to him. He often wondered if they were up there, looking down on him, but he didn't care if they were or weren't. Any parent that can just throw their son out in the street with no care of what will happen to him can "get fucked," according to him.

She also had some strange powers, ones that would definitely come in handy when trying to track someone down, or learn something about someone who didn't want to tell it with their mouth, but Alec himself didn't plan on becoming one of her victims. He hated the idea of someone inside of his head, invading his privacy, watching his memories like a TV show. He wasn't fond on knowing his future either. Alec planned on watching himself and what he touched while around the girl.

Talking about her past seemed to be a touchy subject, and he wasn't planning on digging any deeper than he'd already had. He didn't want to see this girl out in the street somewhere, or in the hands of some criminal organization run by a bunch of perverted freaks, so he decided to give her a chance.

"...I think you'll find a purpose here," Alec said, opening the right hand drawer on his desk to reach in and grab something. "Everyone deserves the chance to prove them self so i'll give you one, Niala." He slid a gold pendant across the desk, in the shape of a "C."

Pendant:

"I need to warn you of a few things before you get hurt and don't know what's happening to you. My father used to run The Company and this city before I did. He created a city wide phenomena called the "Dead Zone." What this phenomena does is make several things impossible to attempt anywhere in Edge City. They include: Teleportation, Astral Projection, manipulating time, reality, and basically trying to cause wide scale destruction and death. If you try to do any of those, you will die... painfully."

Alec pointed to the pendant he slid over to her. "Company employees wearing that pendant can bypass some of the laws of the Dead Zone. Do not attempt to teleport or travel into this building in any fashion other than walking, because trying, if you're wearing that pendant or not, will still kill you. Be sure that you remember this at all times."

Alec leaned back into the leather comfort of his father's recliner. "...I have 3 rules to this pendant, and 1 rule over all. Do not abuse the power of this pendant. Do not use this pendant to hurt innocent people, or for anything evil. Do not attempt to use this pendant against me, or any other Company employee. All of which is punishable by death... My over all rule is this... I have been betrayed many times in the past. People get close to me wearing the mask of friendship, then try to stab me in the back once my guard is dropped. Don't try it... The same as with using the pendant wrong, betrayal is punishable by death..." Alec didn't want to threaten her, he didn't like to threaten any female, but he had to get his point across. With all the back stabbing that went on in the days of The Chaos Squad, it was hard to trust anyone anymore.

"But anyway," Alec said as he rose from his desk and walked around to stand before Niala, looking down at her. "I like to think that i'm fair, and if you stay on good terms with me you will go far. I officially welcome you to The Company, Niala." Alec held out a hand. He made his mind blank so that there was nothing for her to read. Doing such would cause her to be absorbed into his Void, and he didn't want that to happen. If she attempted to see into his mind, or to read his memories through touch, there would be nothing but a blank space.

She watched him reach into his desk drawer, eyes lighting up with curiosity. Then her blue gaze fell to the pendant and, after sliding her hoodie sleeve down over her hand, she reached forward and picked it up, staring at it for a moment. She turned her gaze back to Alec Kane, listening carefully as he spoke. She wanted to tell him he didn't have to worry about her being the sort of person to betray him; but figured that words were always empty things, and the best thing to do would be to prove it through her actions.

She found herself being rather glad she hadn't bothered trying to use her abilities while in his city; that would've ended badly from what he was saying. She watched him get up and walk around his desk to stand in front of her. She made a mental note as she looked to his outstretched hand that she was going to have to find herself a decent pair of gloves; especially if she was going to be around people. She hated using her ability by accident, and tended to avoid contact so she didn't.

Hesitantly she reached out, shaking his hand briefly before letting go. "Thanks, thanks a bunch!", she said, a grin spreading across her face.

Alec shook the child's hand and nodded with his own grin, before turning and walking back around behind the desk to re-take his seat. "Do you have somewhere to stay?" Alec said, settling back into the leather comfort. "If not, there's plenty of room here, and you're more than welcome stay in one of the suites on the 999th floor."

He wouldn't see her staying in some shithole motel, or out in the streets somewhere. He was full aware of the methods of various thugs and grunts who lurked the streets of the several neighborhoods, and knew their appetites didn't exclude the taste of a young untouched female. He went into the same drawer and pulled a set of keys, sliding them across the desk next, keys to one of the rooms on the floor below.

"You don't have to stay if you don't want, but take the keys anyway. If all else fails you still have one option left, don't forget that."

She shook her head no at his question. In truth she'd been breaking into a church every night, sleeping in one of the pews, waking up every fifteen minutes to a half hour, making sure that there was no one else around. So, when he slid the keys across the desk to her she reached over, picking them up and looking at them curiously before turning her attention back to him.

"Thanks, I really appreciate it. Hehe, won't have to worry about waking up every fifteen minutes 'cause I heard a noise or something."

She was rather excited at this point; a place all to her own to sleep? That was like heaven, or like Christmas had come early or something; and she was more than ready to go check out what her suite was going to look like, and to possibly take the longest hottest shower in the history of mankind. "Is there anything else you need from me before I go? Kinda like the idea of being able to get a nice hot shower, and maybe a nap.", she said with a grin.

"No, by all means, go ahead," Alec said. "Stay as long as you want. You might see some small robots rolling around cleaning up messes and taking garbage out, don't mind them. Those keys that I gave you are made of a metal that "remembers" and shapes itself to the lock you put it in. When you put it in one of the locks of the doors on the 999th floor, the key will "Remember" that lock and will only be able to be opened by that key. So if you try to open a door to a room that someone else is staying in, it won't work."

Alec pushed a button on his desk that caused the door to his office to open. "If you ask one of the little robots rolling around for assistance, or for something to eat, they will help you. There's a phone in your room, call me if you have any questions."

Niala nodded and stood up, glancing once more down to the keys in her hand before closing her hand around them and grinning again. She was glad she'd made this choice; she was happy, and she knew with all of the crap she had dealt with she deserved happy. Maybe this was exactly the new start to her life she needed.

"Mkay. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again."

She then turned, leaving out of the office through the open door, and walking her way down the hall, off to find her room on the floor below and get settled in.
