He'd been here a while, surviving. It was a pretty simple process of harnessing water from beneath the sand, if you knew how. Kinzoku knew how. The small animals and wildlife around the areas made for decent enough food, but he found himself missing the noodles and soup from Foot Restaurant on the main street back in Makkura. But he did what he had to in order to survive, and he didn't mind.
The extreme heat of this desert bothered him none, so he could walk around out here without the special suit that many of the inhabitants had to wear in order to survive. Many were still wondering how he could do this without dying; it was mostly because of his extensive time in Yokuchikagure back in his homeworld. The temperature dropped below freezing at night, so he allowed his gourd to absorb the heat from the sun during the day to keep him warm at night.
He'd been tracking his prey for a few weeks now. Kinzoku had been patiently following the creature, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Most of the time it remained underground, moving from outpost to outpost, emerging mostly at night but sometimes during the day to look for food. It mostly ate small animals and whatever settlers of the small towns threw out, but sometimes it was forced to feed upon humans. The creature didn't seem to like eating people, but it did when it was left with no other options.
The creature was very intelligent. When it emerged and attacked a camp of bandits one night, Kinzoku, nearby, could hear it talking to them. Kinzoku took note that it was capable of controlling the sand and using metal in a fashion that he himself could do. Kinzoku wasn't in a rush to catch the beast; he was being patient and observing it as much as he could, prepared to stay out here watching it for years if he had to.
For the most part, Kinzoku remained hidden - or out of the way, at least - at all times. He got his hands on a cloak that was the same color as the sand. If he were to lie down, he would be perfectly camouflaged. The cloak smelled just like the sand as well, fooling desert dwelling carnivorous beasts that sometimes Kinzoku caught, killed and ate. The taste was similar to that of steak. Currently, Kinzoku was seated in the sand, leaning upon a boulder, eating the rest of a beast he'd recently caught and cooked. He was near a watering hole that the creature often came to for a drink, waiting.
